NEO•LEAF Manufacturing and Foods

Sustainability Mission Statement

NEO•LEAF is committed to creating sustainable stakeholder values by integrating environmental and societal concerns into its business strategies and performance.

Introduction

Coconuts are plants of the humid Tropics with multiple uses that has a long life span and is not very demanding in inputs. Coconuts are grown yearly without the need to cut down the trees, and are used in 90% of (coconut-based) manufacturing companies in the Philippines as their main raw material. We produce our MCT coconut oil, which is directly derived from coconut oil. Most of the coconut oil consumed worldwide comes from coconuts grown by small holder farmers in small family farms ranging from 0.5 to 4 hectares.

NEO•LEAF is concerned about the social issues associated to coconut oil production in some regions, such as low farm gate prices and poverty of coconut farming communities but also low yields and productivity as coconut trees age and replanting efforts are insufficient globally. Global demand for coconut based products is soaring at 18%, yet Asia Pacific regional production is growing at only 2%. (FAO 2018).

In addition, regarding specifically to MCT Products, at NEO•LEAF we express concern over the increasing growth of Palm based MCT products vs. Coconut based MCT products. Citing that Palm oil as a raw material requires deforestation through burning and massive forest/land acquisitions specifically for the growth of palm trees.

Our Commitment

In order to meet our commitment of 100% sustainable ingredients by 2030, we require all suppliers to work with their supply chains towards the stated principles and to regularly show significant progress.

We believe responsible manufacturing starts with responsible choices. We are committed to sourcing quality coconuts from trusted suppliers, operating our facilities efficiently, and continuously improving the way we use resources to reduce our environmental impact.

By maintaining high standards across our supply chain and manufacturing processes, we aim to deliver premium coconut MCT oil while supporting the long-term well-being of our customers, business partners, communities, and the environment.

We acknowledge that many suppliers are already implementing these principles and are therefore open to benchmarking company programs against our expectations.
